 Adsorptive-Mediated Transcytosis (AMT) (Abbott et al., 2010; Tajes et al., 2014; Patel and Patel, 2017). In addition, nanoparticles (NP) can under certain circumstances enter secondary organs such as the brain via axonal transport along the olfactory nerve. This is here considered to be a variant of inhalation exposure and does not constitute an own route

 Transcytosis is a major approach for nanomaterials getting through the BBB into the CNS, among which receptor-mediated transcytosis (RMT), adsorptive-mediated transcytosis (AMT), and carrier-mediated transcytosis (CMT) are the three major mechanisms (Bhaskar et al., 2010). RMT is the most applied strategy for nanocarrier-mediated brain drug delivery
